A roadside barber gives a massage to a customer near Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. In a typical Indian barber shop it is not uncommon to find customers who like to end their haircut with a massage. People get it done because they find it relaxing and believe it to be good for keeping the neck loose. While a gentle massage is considered all right, forceful exertion can damage nerves in the neck region, strain muscles around joints and hurt even blood vessels.
