What is the "ethics bank" and how did a public hospital chef manage to redefine the term "hospital food"? Iakovos Apergis was born in Canada on 14 February 1973 and moved with his parents to Greece on 1974. From his very early age liked dealing with food, whether eating or cooking, that’s why he decided finishing school to study cooking at the tourism department. At his first steps he worked with Georgios Tselementes at the preparation of cold food at the restaurants ΝΕΟΝ. He has cooked in different restaurants and known food chains and super markets. He lost his mother at a very early age after a chronic disease. While she was at hospital she complained her son about the tasteless food she had to eat. Years after his mother’s death Iakovos was by chance appointed at the hospital his mother was nursed! He decided to bring the change at food!
In cooperation with his colleagues he tries to cook delicious and from another perspective foods based on the dietary guidelines he receives.
He believes in volunteering and that’s why he offers his services cooking at the house of the organization “Children’s Smile” at Peristeri. He is interested in the human part and that’s why he tries to create healthy standards at children at the school Omiros where he teaches as a professor.
The last years he is a member of Greeks Chef Academy. His purpose is through his appearances on tv to spread his vision for good food at all hospitals! He lives in Nikaia with his wife, two children and their dog.
